Peach Butter Ingredients
- 4 to 4-1/2 pounds fresh peaches
- 4 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1-1/2 tbsp. cinnamon
Peach Butter Recipe
- Prepare Your Peaches: Determine the amount of peach butter you want to make. Just make sure you have enough ripe peaches for the recipe (if you’re doubling the recipe, double the peaches). Thoroughly wash them. Don’t peel them, but remove all seeds and any bruised spots.
- Cook the Peaches: Chop the peaches into small chunks for cooking. Put the peach chunks into a stock pot with the 1/2 C. of water. Cook the peach chunks over medium heat until they’re soft.
- Process the Cooked Peaches: Run the cooked peaches through a food mill until the peach skins are all that remain in the mill. Throw away the peach skins.
- Add Flavor: Throw the peaches back into the large pot. Add the sugar and cinnamon, which will add great flavor to the peaches.
- Cook the Peach Butter: Cook the peaches, sugar, and cinnamon over medium heat until the mixture is thick. Stir the mixture frequently to keep it from sticking to the pot. Cook for 30 minutes to an hour, or until the peach butter holds together on a spoon.
- Can the Peach Butter: Using a canning funnel, distribute the peach butter into hot, sterilized mason jars. Leave 1/4″ of headspace. Screw on the canning lids and bands, and process the jars for 10 minutes in a water bath canner. Place them on cooling racks, and allow 24 hours for the lids to seal.
- Decorate & Display Your Jars: Decorate the jars with poly twine, wooden tags, canning labels, or whatever else you want. Jen decorated the jars with twine and labels, indicating the contents of the jar and the date of their wedding. Display the jars however you want, and have your wedding guests grab one to remember your special day!
