Tips for Grilling Pizza

The grill is the perfect place to cook a pizza. It’s hotter than your oven, so you can cook it quickly and efficiently. Plus, the crust gets crisper on the outside while staying chewy on the inside–the perfect pizza. These are just a few tips for making the perfect grilled pizza.

Trust your grill – When it comes to grilling pizza, the biggest fear seems to be that the dough will fall through the grill grates. It won’t. The space between the grill grates isn’t much different than the space on the cooking rack of your oven.

Use olive oil – Once you’ve perfected your pizza dough, roll it out and rub on some olive oil. The olive oil will keep it from sticking to the grill grates. Throw the dough on the grill and let it cook for a few minutes with the lid closed. After a few minutes, flip the dough over.

Top the pizza after it’s on the grill – This is key for grilling pizza. Have your toppings ready–sauce, cheese, meat, etc.–on hand and ready to go. Once you’ve cooked the dough on both sides, start topping the pizza.

Have the right grill toolsTongs and a spatula will be your best friend when you’re grilling pizza. You can also grill your pizza on a pizza stone if the recipe calls for it.
