A DIY pig waterer made from a PVC pipe is cost-effective, durable, convenient, and the perfect way to accommodate your pig’s watering needs at the fair. Learn how to create this portable watering system on your own with this easy guide from Blain’s Farm & Fleet.
Start by cutting the 10-foot PVC pipe in half using a hacksaw, resulting in a five-foot length. This size is manageable and holds a good amount of water.
Drill a hole inside the PVC pipe approximately six to eight inches from the bottom. Ensure the hole is just large enough to tightly fit the 1/2-inch female adapter into the tube.
Securely glue the 1/2-inch female pressure adaptor into the hole you just cut using PVC cement. This component will connect to the pig drinking nipple.
Once the cement is dry, thread the pig drinking nipple into the adapter. This will act as the dispenser for the pigs to drink water from.
Glue one of the slip pressure caps onto the bottom of the PVC pipe to seal it. This will prevent water from leaking out. Be sure the glue is completely dry before you put any water inside.
Place the other slip pressure cap on the top of the pipe, but do not glue it on. This allows you to remove the cap for refilling the water as needed.
If you plan to hang the waterer to a post inside the the pen, drill two small holes into the top of the pipe. Thread the 14-gauge wire through these holes, and secure it at the top to create a sturdy loop for hanging.
Once you’ve hung the waterer, you can remove the top cap as needed to fill the tube with water. This ensures your pigs have access to water whenever they need it during the fair.
This waterer is not only cost-effective but also customizable to fit your specific requirements. By following these instructions, you can ensure your pigs have a reliable and constant supply of water, contributing to their health and performance.
