You may love fresh salmon on the grill or maybe you’re learning how to roll your own sushi. However, no one enjoys the lingering bad smells of fish in the air, hours after cooking. If you noticed that your dinner has stuck around long after here are some handy tips to help.
You can also leave out a bowl of white vinegar on the counter while you cook the fish. The vinegar absorbs the smell, and the smell of the vinegar will fade as it dries.
Trash can odors can stink up the kitchen–or your entire apartment. Getting rid of those bad smells is easy, though. Baking soda works wonder in a smelly trash can. Sprinkle some at the bottom of the trash can, and it will absorb the odor. If it’s really bad, bleach will disinfect the trash can while getting rid of the smell. When you’re using bleach, make sure it won’t wreck the finish of your trash can and work in a well-ventilated area. Dilute the bleach with warm water to thoroughly clean the trash can.
Between washing dishes and dumping out leftovers, our garbage disposals can get quite a work out. Over time, food can buildup into a smelly, gunky sludge. There are a few natural and easy ways to revitalize your garbage disposal. Lemon and ice cubes are both great for getting rid of the stink. When the disposal crushes the ice cubes, the cubes actually help knock off the built up sludge. Add some coarse salt to the mix to help the cleaning process, too. Finally, throw in some lemon wedges for a fresh, clean scent.
Spills, expired food and more can all contribute to a funky smelling fridge. Thankfully, there’s pretty easy fix: baking soda. First, you’ll need to clean out the fridge and throw away any rotten food. Put the remaining food in a cooler with ice and unplug your refrigerator. Scrub all the shelves and drawers with a mixture of baking soda, dissolved in warm water. Once the fridge is clean, you can sprinkle baking soda on a cookie sheet and leave it in the fridge. Coffee grounds, oats and white vinegar all work well for this, too. They absorb the remaining odors and leave your fridge odorless.
