Polishing Your Wood Furniture
Over time, wood furniture can become faded and dull. Restore its natural luster with the help of Blain’s Farm & Fleet.

What You’ll Need

  • 2 polishing cloths
  • wood polishing spray

You can buy wood polishing spray or make your own with simple household items. There are a few different recipes to try. You can combine 1 cup of olive oil with 1/2 cup of lemon juice or 1/4 cup of white vinegar in an empty spray bottle. If you’re into beekeeping or know a beekeeper, you can also make furniture polish with beeswax. These are all great natural options that can restore the shine in your wood furniture.

How to Polish Wood Furniture

1. Make your homemade polish in a clean, empty spray bottle. If you don’t want to make your own, a store-bought polish will work, too.

2. Take your first cleaning cloth, and apply a small amount of polish to the cloth. Don’t spray it directly on the wood. With the cloth, work the polish into the wood, always going with the grain.

3. With the second cloth, buff the wood’s surface until it’s dry. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you’re happy with the wood’s shine.

That’s it! Polishing your furniture is an easy and inexpensive way to make it look like new. Read through our article on getting rid of water stains–another common problem with wooden furniture. For more tips on cleaning and DIY projects, visit our Around the Home blog.
