This weekend is the perfect time to spruce up that old wooden bench. With a few supplies and easy instructions, you’ll pull off this DIY project in no time. Follow these easy steps from Rust-Oleum to transform your outdoor bench into a statement piece for your porch or patio. Plus it’s easy to do, so you can be proud of a job well done.

How to Paint an Outdoor Bench:

1. Prep the area – Choose a well-ventilated area–preferably outside–and cover nearby objects with drop cloth to protect them from any debris or spray paint mist.

2. Prep the bench – Knock off any loose and old paint with a quick sanding. An Orbital Sander is lightweight and easy to use. Next, remove residue from prepared surfaces with soap and water. Rinse and let the bench dry.

3. Prime the bench – It’s recommended that you prime the bench by applying one coat of Rust-Oleum Clean Metal Primer Spray Paint. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions on the label for specific preparation, application, drying times, and clean up.

4. Finish the bench – Apply one coat of Rust-Oleum Textured Spray Paint in whichever color you want. Make sure that all corners, edges, and heavily pitted areas are adequately covered. Apply a second coat, if necessary, within two hours or after 48 hours.
