A hot chocolate bomb is a ball of chocolate containing marshmallows, hot cocoa mix, and whatever other goodies you’d like.
You simply place the hot cocoa bomb into a mug, pour steamed milk over it, stir everything together, and watch your hot chocolate concoction melt into a liquid form before your eyes!
It’s a perfect beverage to have in the cold, winter months. Plus, making them is a great way to spend quality time in the kitchen with your family. And they make a great Christmas gift for your loved ones!
You can make these delicious treats by following this simple step-by-step guide from Blain’s Farm & Fleet.
There are a couple ways to do this. You can either melt the chocolate by placing it in a bowl, microwaving for 30 seconds, stirring, then continuing to heat in the microwave in 15-second intervals until the chocolate chips are melted.
Or you can melt your chocolate in a double boiler over the stovetop on medium-low heat. The temperature should not rise above 120 . Use a candy thermometer to monitor the chocolate.
Continue to monitor the temperature of your melted chocolate, until it reaches 91 . Once it’s at that temperature, you are ready to place the melted chocolate into the silicone sphere mold.
Spread the chocolate around the mold until it covers each side. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Fill as many molds as necessary for the number of hot cocoa bombs you’re making.
Once complete, set them in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes, or until the chocolate is firm.
Carefully remove the half spheres of chocolate from the molds. Fill your chocolate shell 3/4 full with hot chocolate mix, and add any marshmallows and other add-ins you prefer.
Refer to our recipes below for some different options we suggest! Remember to only fill one of your chocolate half-spheres with goodies, so you can seal them up in the next step.
Warm up a small pan over low heat on your stovetop. Grab each of the empty half spheres of chocolate, and press the rim of the sphere gently onto the pan.
Only hold them there for a few seconds, and then place the half spheres over the tops of the filled ones to seal each hot cocoa bomb, so you have full chocolate spheres.
If you want fancy hot chocolate bombs, you can melt white chocolate, put it in a piping bag, and drizzle it across the spheres.
Once your cocoa bombs are room temperature, they’re ready to serve! Place each hot chocolate bomb in an individual mug, and pour hot milk over the bomb. Stir until it’s completely melted.
