Whether you’re a seasoned pet-treat chef or just beginning your homemade pet treat journey, these five recipes from Blain’s Farm & Fleet will ensure that you can effortlessly whip up some delightful treats for your beloved kitties.

1. Salmon Biscuits

All the salmon-loving kitties out there are sure to enjoy these biscuits. Plus, you get to use your cookie cutter of choice to make them fun shapes!

Ingredients:

  • 1 can of salmon (or any type of canned fish)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 cup of oats

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350° F.
  2. Blend the oats in a food processor until they’ve turned into a flour. Then, drain and blend the salmon to get rid of any chunks.
  3. Mix the oats, salmon, and egg yolk together until a dough forms. If the dough feels too dry, add a little water. If it feels too wet, add a little more of the oat flour.
  4. Roll the dough out on a floured surface, until it’s about 1/4-inch thick. Use a cookie cutter to form the biscuits.
  5. Place the biscuits on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet and bake for 15 minutes, or until they’re lightly browned. Cool before serving.

2. Kitty Jerky

Looking for a super simple recipe for your cat? This kitty jerky only requires one ingredient, and the food dehydrator does almost all the work for you!

Ingredients:

  • Raw meat of your choice (chicken, turkey, beef, salmon, etc.)

Directions:

  1. Using a sharp knife, cut the raw meat into two-inch pieces.
  2. Arrange the pieces of meat in a food dehydrator. Cooking time will vary based on your specific dehydrator model and the amount of meat you’re using. Refer to the dehydrator’s manual for exact drying time.
  3. Check on the jerky regularly. It will likely take at least five hours before it’s done.

3. Catnip Cookies

If your feline can’t get enough catnip, make them some of these tasty cookies. They take catnip to a whole new level!

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350° F.
  2. Beat the egg whites until they form stiff peaks.
  3. Blend the tuna in a food processor to get rid of any chunks.
  4. Gently fold the tuna and catnip into the egg whites.
  5. Put small spoonfuls of the mixture onto a greased cookie sheet, and cook for 25 minutes, or until they’re lightly browned. Wait until they’re room temperature to serve.

4. Tuna Popsicles

Ingredients:

  • 3 cans of tuna
  • 1/4 cup of water

Directions:

  1. Drain all the juice from each can of tuna into a bowl. Add the water and a tablespoon of tuna to the bowl, and mix.
  2. Pour the liquid mixture into an ice cube tray. Place in the freezer until completely frozen.

5. Sardine Bites

Have a kitty who loves fish? They’re sure to enjoy these tasty, bite-sized sardine treats!

Ingredients:

  • 1 can of sardines
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup of oat flour or wheat flour

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350° F.
  2. Blend the sardines along with the oil from the can in a food processor.
  3. Mix the flour, sardines, and egg until a dough forms. If the dough feels too dry, add a little water. If it feels too wet, add a little more of the flour.
  4. Roll the dough into small balls. Then, lightly flatten them on an ungreased baking sheet, and bake for 10 minutes, or until lightly brown. Cool completely on a wire rack.
