How To Install an In-Ground Fence

Have you been thinking about installing an in-ground fence system at your home for your pets? With warmer weather, it’s the perfect time to install an in-ground system. The fence can teach your dog the boundaries of your yard, and help keep them safe. Follow these four basic steps to install your new fence from PetSafe, presented by Blain’s Farm & Fleet.

1. Plan Your Layout

With an in-ground fence, you can truly customize the containment area for your pet. You can give them free reign of the entire yard, or just let them play in a section of it. The fence system also works great for keeping your pets away from your garden, pool, or other areas of your yard.

2. Install the Transmitter & Wire

Install the transmitter and bury wires in your fence. With some basic DIY knowledge, you can set up your in-ground fence system in as little as two days. Watch the video below:

3.  Set Up the Collar

Fit the collar on your pet and find the right static correction level. The transmitter and collar work together to keep your pet in your yard, and within the pet area. The transmitter sends radio signals to the receiver collar your pet wears. Your pet will learn to listen to the warning tone, which reminds him of the boundaries you set up.

4. Train Your Pet

Once everything is set up, it’s time to teach your pet to respect the new boundaries. This training process is about two weeks long. Boundary training can be a fun bonding experience for you and your pet. Most pets can learn to stay in the boundaries over a few short training sessions every day for a few weeks.
