Ingredients

Before you fire up the grill, make sure you have all the necessary ingredients to prepare this tasty meal. This recipe serves four, making it perfect for a family dinner or a small get-together.

  • 1/2 cup fresh tomato salsa (mild to hot, according to preference)
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 clove minced garlic
  • 4 Alaskan salmon steaks or fillets (4-6 oz. each, thawed if frozen)
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 teaspoon grated lime zest
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Lime wedges for garnish

Directions

Marinating the Salmon

  1. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the majority of your salsa (leave two tablespoons aside for later use), lime juice, Dijon mustard, and minced garlic.
  2. Place the salmon fillets in the bowl, making sure they’re fully coated in the marinade.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. This step not only allows the flavors to meld but also ensures your salmon remains moist and tender during grilling.

Preparing the Salsa Butter

  1. In a small bowl, use a fork to blend the softened butter with lime zest, cumin, and the two tablespoons of salsa you set aside earlier.
  2. Mix until well combined, then set aside. This salsa butter will add a creamy, tangy topping to complement the grilled salmon.

Grilling the Salmon

  1. First, remove the salmon fillets from the marinade. Discard any leftover marinade.
  2. Season both sides of the fillets with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Preheat your grill, and use a grill brush to coat it with olive oil to prevent sticking.
  4. Grill the salmon for approximately three minutes on each side. You can tell the grilled salmon fillet is done by poking the center with a fork. If the center flakes apart easily when you poke it, it’s done.

Presentation and Serving

Serve your grilled salmon immediately, topped with a generous dollop of the salsa butter you prepared. Garnish with lime wedges.

Remember, the secret to great grilling is experimentation and having fun. So don’t hesitate to adjust the recipe to suit your taste preferences and explore new flavors. Happy grilling!
