Are You Farm Sales Tax Exempt?

You work hard, and we want to make sure your earnings stay in your pocket. When you’re farm sales tax exempt, you don’t have to pay sales tax on items you purchase exclusively and directly for the business of farming. Apply now and start saving on your next visit.

Business of Farming includes:

• Dairy Farming
• Agriculture
• Horticulture
• Floriculture
• Silviculture
• Beekeeping*
• Custom Farming Services

Tax-exempt items include:

• Tractors and farm machinery, including parts, accessories, attachments, and lubricants
• Feeds and seeds for planting, as well was fertilizer, soil conditioners, sprays, pesticides, and fungicides
• Poultry, bees*, and beehives*
• Containers for fruits, vegetables, bee products*, grain, hay and silage, plastic bags, sleeves, and sheeting used to store or cover hay and silage, as well as bailing twine and bailing wire
• Animal bedding, drugs for farm livestock or bees*, and milk house supplies

*Beekeeping tax exemption not available in Iowa.

At Blain’s, we provide three easy ways to apply for your sales tax exemption:

• Fill out an application in-store at our Customer Service desk.
• Apply online.
• Apply using the Blain’s Farm & Fleet app.

From there, all you have to do is identify yourself as farm sales tax-exempt at checkout! Please allow three to five days for your sales tax exemption to be verified.
