To follow this homemade ice cream recipe, make sure you have the proper supplies on hand. The most important thing you’ll need is an ice cream maker. We used the GreenLife 1.5 Quart Express Ice Cream Maker. You will also need a mixing bowl, spatula, whisk, measuring cups and spoons, and a freezer-safe container for storing your finished product.

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the whole milk, sugar, and salt until the sugar is completely dissolved. This step is crucial for achieving a smooth texture in your ice cream.

Gently stir in the heavy cream, along with any flavorings you’re using. Vanilla extract is a classic choice, but feel free to get creative!

Cover the mixture and refrigerate it for at least two hours, or overnight if possible. This ensures that your ice cream has the perfect consistency and temperature for churning.

Prepare your ice cream maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Make sure the bowl is completely frozen if your model requires pre-freezing.

Pour the chilled mixture into the ice cream maker, and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This process usually takes about 15 to 25 minutes.

Add in any mix-ins during the last five minutes of churning. We used Choc-O-Buttons, but feel free to use any add-ins you like. See our serving suggestions below for some ideas. Just make sure they’re about the size of chocolate chips or smaller.
The ice cream should look soft and creamy. If it’s too soft for your liking, you can place it in a freezer-safe container and freeze until it reaches your desired consistency. For a softer texture, serve immediately.
