Kits in a jar make sweet and simple holiday gifts using just a recipe and mason jars. Layered baking mixes are inexpensive, meaningful gifts. Plus, the gift tags and bows add a pretty, professional touch.

Make this DIY cookie mix in a jar from Blain’s Farm & Fleet for everyone on your Christmas list this year!

1. Clean the jar

Thoroughly wash and dry the mason jars and lids before filling with your ingredients.

2. Layer in the ingredients

Layer the dry ingredients into the canning jar in any order you wish. You can use the ingredients we’ve provided, or use any cookie recipe of your choice!

Using a canning funnel works great for most of the ingredients. Be sure to pack down all ingredients between each added layer, especially the brown sugar.

Fill the jar with enough ingredients so it is full to the top. If there is extra room, we recommend adding more mix-ins, such as chocolate chips or sprinkles.

3. Decorate the jar

Once you’ve filled the jar with all the cookie ingredients, decorate it however you want! One idea is to drape fabric over the lid.

Cut the fabric into a circle by using the top of a small bowl. Place the top of the lid onto the jar, drape the fabric over it and screw on the lid.

4. Add the recipe

Print out a tag with the recipe for your cookies. Punch a hole in the corner of the recipe tag, and thread ribbon, poly twine, or yarn through it. Then, tie it around the mouth of the jar.

If you’d like, you can add a bow or put it in a gift bag as a finishing touch!

Voila! You have a quick, easy, and thoughtful gift your friends and family will enjoy now, and when they bake the delicious cookies!
