FAQs
1. Can I reuse canning jar lids and bands?
Bands/rings are reusable as long as they’re not bent or rusted. But, flat canning lids are generally single-use only. It's not safe to reuse the lids because the sealing compound may not reseal properly.
2. How do I know if a jar sealed correctly?
After your jars have cooled, the lids should be concave, and they shouldn't flex at all when you press the center. You can also grip the lid edges gently (without the band) and try to lift the jar to confirm the seal.
3. Why are rings and lids (bands and flats) often sold separately?
The flat lids are designed for safe, single-use sealing because the sealing compound can weaken after one canning session. Rings/bands don’t create the seal—they just hold the lid in place during processing—so they can be reused for years as long as they aren’t bent, rusty, or damaged.
