Learn how to keep your horse stalls clean in just five steps.

You work hard to keep your horses clean and healthy, and that includes keeping their stable and stall clean, too.

Not only does a clean stable look and smell better, it can also keep your horse healthy.

To keep your horse stable clean, follow these steps from Blain’s Farm & Fleet.

1. Get clean bedding out of the way

Move any clean, unsoiled bedding or hay into the back corners or against the walls.

If you have bedding in the horse stall, use a bedding fork. If you have hay or straw, a pitchfork will do the job.

2. Clear out dirty bedding

Remove any dirty, wet bedding and manure from the the stall. Throw it into a muck bucket or wheelbarrow to take away from the stall and outside the barn.

3. Clean the floor

Use a shovel to pick up any dirt and debris that fell through the fork. And sweep clean the center of the stall.

Use an absorbent deodorizer to treat any damp or wet spots on the stall floor. Do this for both a concrete floor and a rubber mat.

4. Let the stall dry out

Let the cleaned stall air dry for as long as possible. This is a good time to let your horse enjoy time outside the stall, as it only takes about 10 minutes for the actual cleaning process.

5. Add clean bedding

Once the stall is dry, pull back any clean bedding into the center of the stall. If needed, add fresh shavings to the stall, and distribute and fluff it with a fork.

To find the best bedding type for your horse, refer to the guide on our blog.

You can then bring your horse back inside. Repeat these steps for all the stalls in your horse stable.

At Blain’s Farm & Fleet, we understand that you only want the very best for your horses. That’s why we carry everything you need to properly care for them.
