Deep Carpet Cleaning

With spring cleaning underway, one of the best things you can do is a deep carpet cleaning.

If you have carpet in your home, you know it can always use a good cleaning. But what about deep cleaning your carpet? Are there stains you just can’t get rid of? Carpet odors that have taken over the whole room? If you’re having these problems with your carpet, it’s probably time for a deep cleaning.

We give you some tips for deep carpet cleaning. Of course, sometimes these problems will require you to call in the professionals, or rent a carpet cleaner that you can use yourself. Either way, we recommend deep cleaning your carpet at least once a year.

Prepare the Carpet for Deep Cleaning

Before you begin deep carpet cleaning, you’ll want to pick a good day to do it. Don’t deep clean on a humid day, because your carpet will take much longer to dry. The excess moisture can cause problems with mold and mildew, so you will want your carpet to dry as quickly as possible. Pick a day where you can open the windows to help speed up the drying process. You can also speed up the drying process by using fans or a dehumidifier.

Protect your furniture by removing it from the room you’re cleaning. You will want to deep clean the entire area, so it’s important for the carpet to be clear.

Vacuum the room before you start deep carpet cleaning. A helpful tip is to sweep the carpet to loosen up any dirt, dust or debris that might be missed by the vacuum. Vacuuming before cleaning the carpet will help to prevent debris getting stuck deeper in the carpet fiber.

Pretreat problem spots before using the deep cleaner. Use a spotting solution on stains. If you have stains from pet accidents, we recommend using a spotting solution that contains enzymes. The enzymes help with odor control. There are also organic solutions for removing pet stains from your carpet.

Hot Water Extraction v. Dry Extraction

There are two methods for deep carpet cleaning: hot water extraction and dry extraction. Hot water extraction is also known as steam cleaning the carpets. Hot water and a solution are distributed on the carpet, and the carpet extractor machine sucks up the dirty solution into the machine. This method is kind of like pressure washing your carpet, but the excess water gets sucked back up by a powerful vacuum.

Dry extraction is done by spreading a chemical compound on your carpet, and vacuuming it up. This method is used because it produces the least amount of moisture, and carpets dry relatively quickly. The downfall is that some of the chemicals used can be harsh. Also, the dry extraction method is more expensive than hot water extraction.
