Discover some unique ways to replace traditional gift wrapping.

When it comes to gifts, giving them can be just as exciting as receiving them! Especially when you’ve taken the time to wrap them using your own, personal touch.

There are so many things you can do with a box and wrapping paper to give your gifts a unique look. But have you ever considered using other items to wrap them?

You can use common household items to take your creativity to a whole new level by presenting your gifts in a unique way.

To help spark some inspiration, Blain’s Farm & Fleet has compiled a list of some unconventional wrapping items that you can probably already find laying around your house.

Items to Replace a Box:

By replacing the standard box, you can expand the possibilities for how you present your gift. Plus, it’ll give you the opportunity to display gifts that may not fit well in a box.

Baskets and buckets are a great alternative for theme-based gifts, while cups and mason jars work well for containing small items or food-based gifts.

There are endless ways you can use these items to personalize them for the recipient. So don’t be afraid to get creative!

Items to Replace Gift Wrap:

  • Towels
  • Blankets
  • Shirts
  • Socks
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Paper Grocery Bags/Shopping Bags
  • Newspaper (the comic section is especially fun!)
  • Pillow Cases
  • Burlap
  • And More!

Flashy wrapping paper can get expensive. Luckily, there are many alternatives to wrapping paper. And they can look even better than traditional gift wrap!

Use ink stamps, embellishments, ribbon, or paint to make your wrapping look as flashy or as simple as you want. And use functional items, such as towels or shirts, as wrapping to add an extra edge and provide the recipient with a bonus gift.

Whichever direction you decide to go, it’ll still save you money, is more eco-friendly, and will give your gifts a unique look.

Items to Replace Ribbons & Bows:

More Specific Ideas:

  • Bungee or Extension Cords, for DIY gifts
  • Charging Cords, for electronic gifts
  • Leashes/Collars, for pet-themed gifts
  • Belts or Shoestrings, for clothing gifts

Ribbons and bows provide a nice, finishing touch to a gift, but like wrapping paper, they can get expensive. Try substituting them with common household items, such as the ones listed above.

By combining your personalized wrapping paper and bow, you can create a complete, unique look that isn’t available in-stores. Plus, it will be cheaper!

You can even go for a practical approach by using part of the gift, such as an extension cord or belt, as the finishing touch.

There are an endless amount of possibilities for wrapping gifts when you embrace your creativity and go beyond standard gift wrapping.

It may take you some extra time, but the finished product will make up for that in cost and presentation. You’ll be giving someone you love a gift that they know came from the heart.
