Once you’ve found the right cat litter and box, there are a few accessories you’ll need to make it more convenient, hygienic, and enjoyable for you and your feline friend.
From avoiding unpleasant odors to minimizing messes, Blain’s Farm & Fleet has you covered with these must-have litter box accessories.
You can’t have a litter box without a litter box scoop. A cat litter scooper is the best tool for cleaning your litter box. You should choose one that has small holes or gaps for the litter to fall through. This way, you’ll only clean out the dirty, solid pieces from the box.
We recommend buying a strong litter scoop made of either durable plastic or stainless steel. You can also find larger versions and ones that come with longer handles, depending on your needs.
One of the most common gripes among cat owners is litter getting tracked throughout their home. Luckily, there’s an easy fix to this problem—a litter mat!
Simply put the mat in front of the entrance/exit of the litter box, and it will catch the litter from your cat’s paws as they step out.
Cat litter mats come in a variety of different sizes and materials, including silicone, foam, and more. We recommend getting one made of an easy-to-clean material, since you’ll have to wash it regularly. And make sure it’s large enough to span the entire length of the litter box entryway.
Another frustration cat parents often have with litter boxes is the smell. Sometimes, it feels like no matter how often you clean the box, it still stinks! That’s where odor eliminators come in handy.
Cats can be very sensitive to strongly-scented odor eliminators, such as sprays and wall plug-ins. So don’t use these near your litter box. Instead, opt for an odor eliminator specifically designed for litter boxes.
You have a few different options when it comes to litter box deodorizers. The first is a litter box filter. These typically go in the top of your cat’s litter box, and they absorb strong odors, such as ammonia. Depending on the filter you buy, one usually lasts at least a month.
You can also go with a deodorizing powder, which you sprinkle straight onto the litter. These typically contain baking soda, which keeps your litter fresh and eliminates litter box odors. You can find powders in both scented and non-scented varieties.
Litter box liners make cleanup a breeze. Once you’ve secured the liner to your cat’s box, pour in the litter like you normally would. Then, at cleanup time, all you have to do is tie up the liner and throw it away!
It’s an easy and convenient method to cleaning the cat box. You don’t have to worry about scooping out waste or scrubbing dried urine and litter off the sides of the litter box.
When shopping for litter box liners, just make sure you get one that’s large enough to fit you cat’s litter box.
