Create A Salsa Garden

Instructions

1. Determine a size and a location in your yard where you will plant your garden. The area should get sun for at least 6 hours a day. If you're starting with a new bed, start small, maybe 5' x 5'. This way you will get a good gauge on how much produce you actually use and change your garden plan accordingly for next year.
2. Remove the sod from the site you'll be using with either a shovel or a sod cutter. Cut about 3-4" down if you're using a shovel. Try to remove as much grass and root as possible. Gas-powered sod cutters are recommended and are probably easier to use.
3. Select plants you choose to grow. Tomatos, peppers, onion, garlic. Whatever your palette desires. Be sure to choose plants that will grow best in the light conditions you have. Several varieties grow better under certain conditions. If you're planting from seed the rule of thumb is to bury the seeds 2-3 times the depth of their diameter.
4. If you're starting with plants you pre-potted indoors, bury them as deep as they are planted in their original container. Be sure to wait until the weather is warm enough before planting most salsa ingredients such as tomatoes, peppers and most herbs. You don't want to be too anxious and have plants that are ruined during a Spring freeze.
5. Water, weed, fertilize and harvest on a weekly basis through the growing season. Enjoy the abundance of fresh veggies and herbs and create a personalized salsa based on your taste bud preferences!
