STIHL Incorporated is recalling BF-KM Mini-Cultivator attachments (part number 4601 740 5001) if incorrectly assembled by the STIHL dealer with the gearbox installed upside down. Correctly assembled BF-KM attachments are not recalled.
If the gearbox was installed upside down, the tines will rotate toward the operator, posing a laceration hazard. STIHL Incorporated has received 12 reports of incidents and six reports of lacerations to the operators’ feet and legs.
The BF-KM attachment is properly assembled if the axle is below the drive tube when the locating lug for the coupling to the powerhead is facing up. Images of correct and incorrect installation are shown below. Inspect all assembled attachments in your inventory and ensure the gearbox is properly installed before delivering any BF-KM attachments to your customers.
As part of the recall any customer with an improperly assembled BF-KM attachment will bring it to a STIHL servicing dealer for a free inspection and free proper assembly. If you believe any BF-KM attachments were sold by your store assembled incorrectly, immediately contact the customer and ask them to return to the dealership for a free inspection and correct assembly.
