Rice Lake, WI – Blain’s Farm & Fleet has saved their seventh life as a company through the implementation of in-store AED’s and AED staff training. A recent medical emergency at the Rice Lake store lead to quick-take action by staff and customers resulting in saving another customer’s life. On Friday, September 1st, a Heart Saver Heroes ceremony was held at the Rice Lake store to honor our associates and the customer.

On June 9 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin a male customer needed medical attention. Assistant Manager Matt Schultz, immediately called 911, began CPR and administered one shock with an AED.  Paramedics arrived shortly after and took over for Matt. Thankfully, the customer is doing well and has been released.

“We are so proud of our staff, who because of their training and dedication to the wellbeing of customers and associates, can jump-in to help someone in urgent medical need,” says Jane Blain Gilbertson, Owner and President, Blain’s Farm & Fleet.  “This incident along with the six before it reiterates the emphasis we place on CPR and AED training for all of our management staff and shows why it is imperative. We are very thankful everything worked out the way it did.”

Blain’s Farm & Fleet partnered with the American Heart Association 25 years ago to begin the Bert Blain Memorial Heart Walk, named in memory of Jane’s father and Blain’s Co-Founder Bert who died of a heart attack in 1993. In that time, Blain’s has worked with local companies and the community to raise over $4.5 million for the AHA, which placed the company ninth highest in the rankings for donations nationwide.  Last year, Blain’s Farm & Fleet ranked third regionally just behind Wal-Mart and HSN, raising over $300,000.

“Although it saddens me to know that another individual has been impacted by a heart attack, it also makes me so proud to know that Blain’s once again played an instrumental role in saving a life,” says Karla Lodholz, Regional Vice President American Heart Association. “On behalf of the American Heart Association, we want to say thank you to Blain’s Farm and Fleet for investing in the communities they serve and for being the only retailer to have AED’s in all of their 38 locations nationwide.  Blain’s cares about people and this is just one more example of how they’re giving back making their stores and the communities they serve safer for everyone.”
