This apple butter recipe is very easy to make. Apples are the only required ingredient. And the slow cooker will do most of the work for you. Plus, as it cooks, it will make your home smell like warm apples all day long!
This recipe makes several servings, so you could also gift jars of it to friends and family!
To make the apple butter, just follow the recipe below from Blain’s Farm & Fleet.
Apple butter is essentially caramelized applesauce. It’s made similarly to applesauce, but it’s cooked for much longer.
During this time, the natural sugars from the apples come out stronger. For this reason, you don’t need to add any extra sugar to apple butter, if you don’t want to.
The consistency is also more smooth and velvety than applesauce.
You can use apple butter as a spread on toast, English muffins, crackers, pork chops, and more. You can also add it to things like oatmeal, yogurt, and ice cream for a tasty, fall twist.
1. Chop your apples into cubes. You can peel the apples if you’d like, but it’s not necessary.
2. Put the apples in your slow cooker, along with any other ingredients you’d like. If you want sweeter apple butter, add brown sugar. If you want it to have a spicier, fall taste, add the spices. Mix everything.
3. Cover the slow cooker, and cook apples on high for 6 hours or low for 10 hours.
4. Blend the apple butter. You can use an immersion blender and do this directly in the slow cooker, or use a regular blender. If using a blender, be sure to vent it, so the steam can escape.
5. Let the apple butter cool completely. Then, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. You can also freeze it to last longer.
