Leather gloves are some of the best work gloves, but they’re also the hardest to keep clean. Keeping your leather gloves in good condition will help them last longer.
One of the best ways to do that is by washing them. There are two main ways you can clean leather gloves.
1. Wash leather work gloves in cold water and saddle soap, and lay them out flat to dry. Wringing the water out can misshape them.
When they’re not in use, store them in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
2. Another option is to brush off grime and dirt with a toothbrush. Next, wash the gloves in a cold bucket of water with half a cup of laundry detergent and one tablespoon of salt.
Using your hands, rub the dirt off with the soap. Rinse the gloves off in plain cold water. Gently squeeze excess water from the gloves in a downward motion. Hang them up to air dry with clothespins.
Massage the gloves to keep the leather from stiffening, and continue doing so until they’re completely dry.
These slick-material gloves are the best work gloves to clean. Always be careful when cleaning these gloves if you’ve been working with chemicals.
1. Before removing the gloves, wash them with soap and water. It’s best to wash them off with a hose or in a utility sink.
After the gloves are rinsed off, remember to wash your hands, especially if you were working with chemicals.
Hang the gloves up, and let them dry completely. You’ll want to store them in a dry place to help prevent mildew growth.
When you’re working in the garden or doing light yard work, your work gloves are bound to get dirty. Knit gloves (jersey, cotton, and the like) can all be machine washed. There are two methods to cleaning them.
1. To wash cotton work gloves, first rinse them off under the hose. This will help wash off any caked-on dirt or grass.
Once you’ve given them a pre-rinse, wash them with warm water in the washing machine. You can tumble dry them in the dryer.
2. For knit gloves, rinse them off under the hose. You can wash them in the washing machine, but with cool water.
To prevent any shrinkage or damage, hang them up to dry.
