Have an old piece of wood furniture that you&#8217;ve been dying to restore? With the help of Blain&#8217;s Farm &amp; Fleet, you can start painting wood furniture in no time. Use these simple tips to get started.<\/p>\n<h3>Tips for Painting Wood Furniture<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1. Remove drawers and hardware.\u00a0<\/strong>Remove any drawer pulls, knobs, other hardware, loose shelves, and drawers. A.) You don&#8217;t want to paint the drawers shut and B.) you&#8217;ll be able paint all the nooks and crannies of the furniture. While everything is taken apart, repair any loose joints and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmandfleet.com\/s\/?keyword=wood+putty\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">putty<\/a> any holes or dents.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Always sand the furniture.<\/strong> The first thing to do before you begin painting wood furniture is sanding. Proper sanding allows for a even, smooth finish in which an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmandfleet.com\/s\/?keyword=orbital%20sander\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">orbital sander<\/a> would great! If your piece already has lacquer, it is best to start out with a sandpaper between 80 to 100 grit. Once the paint or stain has been removed, you can use a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmandfleet.com\/products\/842815-gator-150-grit-sandpaper-sheet.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">150 grit sandpaper<\/a> to remove any remaining finish and to smooth out your furniture&#8217;s surface.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Prime it.\u00a0<\/strong>Use a mini <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmandfleet.com\/s\/?keyword=foam+roller\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">foam roller<\/a> to prime the main surfaces of the furniture. Go with the grain of the wood, and use a paint brush for corners and edges that can&#8217;t be fully primed with a roller. For drawers, use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmandfleet.com\/s\/?keyword=painter%27s+tape\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">painter&#8217;s tape<\/a> to block off the inside of the side rails and only paint the drawer front. Once the primer has dried, sand it again with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmandfleet.com\/s\/?keyword=220+grit+sandpaper\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">220 grit sanding block<\/a>, and wipe it down with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmandfleet.com\/products\/988166-shopsmith-premium-tack-cloth.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tack cloth<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Paint it.\u00a0<\/strong>Follow the basics for any painting project: give yourself enough work space and work in an area that will properly ventilate any paint fumes.\u00a0When you&#8217;re ready to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmandfleet.com\/home-improvement\/paints\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">paint<\/a>, use a combination of a foam roller and paint brush to evenly coat the wood furniture. Just like you did with the primer, paint with the grain of the wood. Use the foam roller on flat surfaces and use an angled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmandfleet.com\/s\/?keyword=sash+brush\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sash brush<\/a> for corners and tough-to-reach edges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Let it dry.\u00a0<\/strong>Let the first coat of paint dry. If there are any drips, carefully sand them off, but only if the paint is completely dried. Always follow the manufacturer&#8217;s recommendations for drying times. Add a second coat and let it dry completely.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. Reassemble the wood furniture.\u00a0<\/strong>If you painted a piece with any hardware or drawers, reassemble the furniture.
