Largemouth and smallmouth bass are some of the most sought-after fish in the sport of fishing. We’ve all heard about bountiful fishing spots since we were knee-high. Unfortunately, the fishermen who brag about their unmatched bass fishing spots don’t want to tell where they are. Since we fishermen don’t always like to share, we keep our best bass fishing spots secret. How to Find The Best Bass Fishing Spot<\/h2>\n\n\n

Try talking to some bass bait<\/a> and fishing tackle<\/a> shop owners first. This is the easiest way to find great bass fishing spots. They hear a lot from triumphant fisherman that come in after a day on the lake. Bait and tackle shop owners are usually pretty generous with info on where to fish \u2013 the more fish you catch, the more business they can do with you. You can at least get the name of a general area or body of water out of them. This will give you a lead if you want to start looking for your own awesome bass fishing spot. If no one is willing to share, then follow these tips to find your own.<\/p>\n\n\n

1. Do Your Homework<\/h3>\n\n\n

You’re doing part of it right now by reading this article. Internet fishing sites are great places to find info on where to find certain fish in your area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another key part to your research is to contact your local fishing authorities. In most states, the governmental department that regulates fishing publishes maps of which spots are open to public fishing. These booklets also usually include lists of which fish species live at each area.<\/p>\n\n\n

2. Get a Fish Finder<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n

This will make your life so much easier. You’re not really using this so much for finding fish as you are for seeing the terrain below the water. Pick one with a good ability to give you a clear image of the bottom of the river or lake. Higher end sonar fish finders work great.<\/p>\n\n\n

3. Look for Bass-friendly Terrain<\/h3>\n\n\n

Bass like crevices and sharp changes in contour in the terrain. This means that you might start looking for your bass haven on the points of a lake or bends in the river. Dams are also good places to find bass. Holes and crevices on the river or lake bottom are prime small mouth hideouts.<\/p>\n\n\n

4. Look for Underwater Foliage and Stumps<\/h3>\n\n\n

Almost all species of bass like brush, stumps, rocks, and other cover that they can hide in. Bass are ambush predators, and like to stay hidden until they can take their prey by surprise. Use this to your advantage. Spots with these features are usually shallow, but can be deep. Again, river dams are great because branches and weeds can build up on their faces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The key to bass fishing is really to study and learn as much about the fish and what they like. Once you know where they like to live, what they like to eat, and when they’re most active, you can grab your fishing rod<\/a> and start catching them like a pro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
