Learn how to properly fit a bike helmet with the help of Blain’s Farm & Fleet.<\/h2>\n\n\n

One of the easiest ways to stay safe stay when you’re riding your bike is to wear a bike helmet. Not only should you wear a helmet, but you should also make sure it fits correctly. Blain’s Farm & Fleet is here to help you with a helmet safety check.<\/p>\n\n\n

Fitting Your Bike Helmet<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n

1. Measure your head for the approximate bike helmet size needed. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Try on a bike helmet in that size to ensure a snug fit. While it is sitting flat on your head, make sure the bike helmet does not rock side to side. Sizing pads come with new bike helmets, so be sure to use them to secure the fit. Mix and match sizing pads for the greatest comfort level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bike helmet you chose should sit level on your head and low on your forehead – one or two finger widths above your eyebrow is about where it should rest. The rim of the helmet should barely be visible to the eye when the rider looks up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Center the left buckle under your chin.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On most helmets, the straps can be pulled from the back of the helmet to lengthen or shorten the chin straps. Take the helmet off to make the adjustments easier. Adjust the slider on both straps to form a V shape under, and slightly in front of, the ears. Lock the sliders if possible. Buckle the chin strap. Tighten the strap until it is snug. No more than one finger should fit in between the strap and your chin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Try the palm test.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Put your palm on the front of the bike helmet and push up and back. If the bike helmet moves more than an nice, more fitting is required. Also, open your mouth wide, the bike helmet should pull down on the head, the straps should not loosen. Also shake your head around to be sure the bike helmet does not dislodge during the movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
