Your toilet stops flushing, and you realize you have a clog.<\/p>\n<p>Prepare for unclogging a toilet by placing paper towel or newspaper around the toilet. This will help you avoid floor damage if your toilet overflows, or water splashes out during the clearing process. Also make sure to wear <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmandfleet.com\/s\/?keyword=rubber%20gloves&amp;categorynew=1%7CHome%20Basics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">rubber gloves<\/a>. Even the cleanest toilets are unsanitary, and you\u2019ll want to protect yourself from germs. If you can see the cause of the clog, you can utilize the rubber gloves to grab the clog culprit.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll want to only flush the toilet once. If you really want to unclog your toilet, make sure you have a plunger with a foldout rubber flange on the bottom. This flange forms a seal when you begin plunging. Make sure the plunger is submerged in water; using only air with a plunger will render it ineffective.<\/p>\n<p>You want to create suction, which will push and pull the clog. If you plunge too aggressively, it can actually make the clog worse.<\/p>\n<h3>Home remedies for unclogging a toilet<\/h3>\n<p>If you don\u2019t want to use the plunger method, there are other options for unclogging a toilet. You can use a wire hanger. Untwist the wire hanger until the ends are no longer together. Firmly wrap a rag around the end going into the toilet to avoid scratching the porcelain. Once you have the wrapped end in the drain, twist it to break up the clog. This method will only work if the clog is within the first few inches of the drain.<\/p>\n<p>Another method is using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmandfleet.com\/s\/?keyword=baking%20soda&amp;categorynew=2%7CHome%20Basics%2FHousewares\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">baking soda<\/a> and vinegar. Use equal parts baking soda and vinegar. Once the baking soda is in the bowl, slowly pour the vinegar into the bowl. After the vinegar has been poured into the toilet, you will have to let it sit for a couple minutes. Once the mixture has sat in the toilet, slowly add a gallon of hot tap water. If the clog is still not removed after doing this once, repeat the method to continue dissolving the clog. Of course, if you have a clog caused by a toy or hair, this method won\u2019t be very useful.<\/p>\n<p>If you can\u2019t resolve the clogged toilet with a plunger or home remedy, it\u2019s probably time to call a plumber.
