While you may not think it&#8217;s a problem, it can actually lead to health complications. Dog who eat too fast can suffer from gagging, choking and vomiting. There&#8217;s also a chance of a more serious health problem&#8211;gastric dilation, commonly known as canine bloat. Dogs can suffer from canine bloat if they eat too fast or too much. The dog&#8217;s stomach expands as gasses build up, causing the stomach to twist within the dog&#8217;s abdomen. This stops gasses from leaving the stomach and circulation can be cut off from the organ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a fast eater, it&#8217;s important to train your dog to slow down. There are a few simple ways to stop your dog from eating too fast. Follow along with Blain&#8217;s Farm &amp; Fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"feed-more-with-smaller-amounts\"><strong>Feed More with Smaller Amounts<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n<p>Try feeding your dog smaller amounts of <a href=\"\/dog-food\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dog food<\/a> throughout the day instead of one or two big servings. For example, if you feed your dog two cups of food twice a day, feed him or her one cup four times a day instead. Breaking up the feeding times with smaller amounts can help them stop overeating.<\/p>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"use-or-create-a-slow-feed-bowl\"><strong>Use or Create a Slow Feed Bowl<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n<p>A slow feed bowl has obstacles that your dog has to work around to get to their food. This slows down the eating process and makes your dog work a bit for their food. You can buy a <a href=\"\/s\/?keyword=slow+dog+feeder\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">slow feed bowl<\/a> or create your own. To make a slow feed bowl, place a small food bowl upside down in the middle of a larger food bowl. This creates a moat that your dog will have to work around. Another option is to place large, clean chew toys (that can&#8217;t be swallowed) in the food bowl. Your dog can work around these obstacles to get to their food.<\/p>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"use-a-food-puzzle\"><strong>Use a Food Puzzle<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n<p><a href=\"\/s\/?keyword=interactive+treat+puzzle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Interactive dog food puzzles<\/a> or dog toys that you can stuff with food are a great way to get your dog to slow down. It&#8217;s also a great way to encourage mental exercise and play time for your pup. These work great for treats, too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are just some general guidelines.
