While the outside may be too cold to plant, right now is the time to begin starting seeds indoors. Follow these simple tricks so by the time you can start planting, you&#8217;ll have a batch of vegetables that will be ready for your garden outside.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Starting Seeds Indoors with Peat Pellets:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> Peat pellets, also known as seed plugs, are really handy when you\u2019re starting seeds indoors. Whether you have a big or small garden this year, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmandfleet.com\/s\/?keyword=jiffy+greenhouse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jiffy greenhouses<\/a> are the perfect tool to start your garden.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> Arrange your peat pellets in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmandfleet.com\/products\/394666-jiffy-plant-tray.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jiffy Plant Tray<\/a> and pour water over each seed plug until they expand to their full size.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> Make sure that none of the netting has shifted over the top of the plug. If so take a pencil and pull the netting to the edge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> Once they have expanded, take your pencil and make a hole \u00a0\u00bc\u201d to \u00bd\u201d deep. Add one or two of your favorite variety of <a href=\"\/plants-bulbs-seeds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">seeds<\/a> to each pellet. Make sure that you use <a href=\"\/plant-stakes-and-ties\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">plant labels or markers<\/a>\u00a0so you know what seeds you planted in which pellet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.<\/strong> Add a sprinkling of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmandfleet.com\/s\/?keyword=vermiculite\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vermiculite<\/a>\u00a0to each pellet. This will help the germination process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.<\/strong> Cover your soil plugs to create a greenhouse effect with your plants. Put your plants in an area where they can soak up indirect sunlight. You can also use a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmandfleet.com\/s\/?keyword=grow%20light&amp;categorynew=1%7CHome%20Improvement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">grow light<\/a>, which can help give your plants the right amount of light they need. Poke ventilation holes in the plants&#8217; covering so they do not overheat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7.<\/strong> Don\u2019t water the pellets again until they start to look a little dry; they need to stay moist but not soaking wet. Once you start noticing the \u201ctrue\u201d leaves pop up and the cotyledons have withered away, take the cover off and move the pellets to an area where your plants can receive at least six hours of direct sunlight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8.<\/strong>\u00a0Once your seedlings have grown a few inches taller, you may need to transport them to a bigger pot. This will allow the roots to spread out further and develop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9.<\/strong> Once the temperature start getting warmer, your plants should be ready to plant outside. However, you\u2019ll want to gradually acclimatize the plants to the sunlight and different climate. By the time the temperature warms outside, you should have stocky, healthy young plants. At first, move your plants to a shady spot for increasing amounts of time, several days in a row. Bring them in or cover them if the temperature looks like it will dip. Gradually increase the amount of time outside and the amount of sunlight they receive until you see that they are growing strong and appear ready to go out on their own.<\/p>\n<p><strong>10.<\/strong> Water your seedlings well before and after transplanting.
