Mixtures consist of two or more types of grasses blended to perform for specific purposes. Premium mixtures will not contain more than 10% Annual Ryegrass, as this variety will not come back after one year and should only be used as a nurse grass to shade and protect other varieties that germinate slower. Select a mixture with the highest percentage of the variety that suits your needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are a few&nbsp;of the most&nbsp;common <a href=\"\/grass-seed\/\">grass seeds<\/a> for&nbsp;colder climates:<\/p>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"kentucky-bluegrass\"><a title=\"Kentucky Bluegrass\" href=\"https:\/\/www.farmandfleet.com\/s\/?keyword=kentucky+bluegrass\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kentucky Bluegrass<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n<p>A hardy grass preferred in full sun areas that will be well maintained. Sod-forming rhizomes knit together to provide a thick, durable lawn. Germinates in 21 days and mixes well with Perennial Rye and Fine Fescue. Dark green in color and medium-textured. Recommended for zones 2 to 7.<\/p>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"perennial-ryegrass\">Perennial Ryegrass<\/h4>\n\n\n<p>Comes back year after year but will not withstand extreme temperatures like Bluegrass. Deep-rooted and well-suited for sandier soils. Germinates in 5-7 days. Newer turf-type varieties are darker green than common Perennial Rye. Tolerates high traffic and requires less maintenance. Grows well in filtered, or medium sunlight conditions.&nbsp;Recommended for zones 7 to 8.<\/p>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"fine-fescue\">Fine Fescue<\/h4>\n\n\n<p>Dark green, fine-leaf grass that tolerates shade and less water than Perennial Rye and Bluegrass. Also grows in poor soils.
