Blain’s Farm & Fleet Chick Days 2019 will be here before you know it, which means it’s time to begin placing your orders. With over 190 varieties of birds available, customers can choose from Chickens, Bantams, Geese, Ducks, Turkeys, and Guineas! Refer to the 2019 poultry guide for pricing and breed availability. Depending upon the poultry breed, you have the ability to order pullets (females), cockerels (males), and a straight run (a mixture of males and females). There are also minimum order quantities associated with each breed of poultry, 5 bird minimum for most basic chicks, 15 bird minimum for bantams and guineas, 1 bird minimum for cockerels, and a 2 bird minimum for ducks and turkeys. Customers must contact their local Blain’s Farm & Fleet store to complete their chick orders. We encourage everyone to place their orders by the February 1st or February 8th deadline (one of these dates corresponds with your local store, see graphic below). However, if you miss your deadline don’t panic. You will still have the ability to order chicks all the way through June, but there’s no guarantee we’ll have the specific breed and quantity of poultry you desire. If you place an order, please call your local store at the beginning of March to find out when your chicks will be available for pick-up. Lastly, the following breeds of chicks will be available for purchase during the, “Learn From the Pros” Chicken Demo Event – Easter Egger, Barred Rock, Rhode Island Reds, Cinnamon Queens, Light Brahma, Buff Orpington, Cornish Crush, and Black Australorp (Due to local restrictions, Madison, Oak Creek, and Belvidere will not have chicks available for purchase.) The number of chicks available will vary from store to store, and chicks will be sold on a first come first serve basis.
Blain’s Farm & Fleet also wants to make sure you are prepared and informed on how you must care for your chicks. There will be a series of events taking place up until chick days to make sure this happens. We will host 3 Facebook Live Chick Chats, 14 In-Store Seminars, 2 Learn From the Pros Chicken Demos, and we will provide informational materials, such as the Care of Baby Chicks packet, and our Care Tips for Baby Chicks blog. This will give you plenty of opportunities to ask questions and learn how to care for your chicks before they arrive.
