Instructions:

  1. Coordinate your tailgate. Decide who is cooking, who is driving and what everyone is bringing with them. You don't need 5 bags of chips and no hamburgers! Make sure everyone knows exactly what their role is.
  2. Plan your menu and do prep work a day or two before the game. Keep the menu simple and pack prepared food in disposable containers. Dishes like dips, pasta salads, hot wings, brats and burgers all carry well and are easy to prepare. See our recipe section for more great ideas.
  3. Be prepared. Pack the night before. Load tables and chairs and be ready for any weather conditions, from sun to rain. Check each item to the left off as you pack. Remember to bring a small first aid kit, trash bags, water and towels to clean hands and face.
  4. Dress in team colors. Wear a team jersey or sweatshirt. You are the 12th member on the team. Tailgaters are the best fans!
  5. Get to the stadium early. Plan to arrive three to four hours early and stay one to two hours after the game. You want plenty of time to eat, play and relax. Find a good spot to park. Not all parking is created equal! Park next to a grassy area or at the end of the parking row – this gives you more room for serious tailgating.
  6. Set out and cook the food. Eat and eat some more. Food should be ready 1-1/2 hours before the game starts. That leaves plenty of time to eat, clean up and extinguish fires before going to the game. Cook extra food and share it with your tailgate neighbors. Swap recipes. Throw the football. Play some Bean Bags and have a good time. It's what you're there for!
