A shopper asked: Does Borax kill mildew? May 21, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Robert J: Yes it kills mildew. But as with all salts once it washes off the surfaces the mildew spores generally will reattach and it will come back.No different than household bleach.Borax is as safe as salt. Products like household bleach are more harmful and off gas when killing mildew or mold. The honest best thing to use is baking soda and scalding hot water on surfaces covered with mold or mildew.Scrub borax or baking soda like you would a scouring cleanser and let it sit and wash off with hot water. Robert B: Yes, most definitely. I used it to remove mildew from several sweatshirts. I added 1/2 cup of borax and 1 cup of white vinegar to my washing machine along with the regular detergent. After two washes, the mildew smell was gone.

I've seen several reviews that say it also works on removing mildew from bathroom tile and other surfaces, too.
