What keeps the carrier from wobbling back and forth? Is its only support/stabilizer the trailer hitch?
Best Answer: There is a clamp that goes around the hitch and clamps to the receiver. The clamp is supposed to help stabilize the cargo rack. Its basically a U shaped bracket with bolts that protrude off either side of the uprights of the U (so from the side, the U looks like an upside down L with the bolts being in the small side of the L). The idea is that the U goes around the hitch on the cargo rack and the bolts get tightened against the very end of the receiver on the car. I think the device is more of an after thought, because from reading reviews on the web, I can see that a lot of people have had their hitches on the cargo rack bend. In fact, after owning mine 10 months, I was hauling 5 five-gallon buckets of dirt in my cargo rack on the streets of Waukesha and the hitch bent. I had to have someone bend the tubing back and add a solid bar inside the tubing. My experience was the 1.25" hitch. Maybe I put too much in the rack, not sure. The U clamp idea is used for either hitch. There is a reduce that down sizes it to 1.25".
