Considered a rare breed of Turkey, past breeding is thought to be derived from the Spanish Black Turkey of USA and the Norfolk Black in England.  The Blue Slate Turkey makes an excellent forager and backyard/farm turkey. They are capable of reproducing naturally and do go broody.

The Bronze Broad Breasted Turkey is considered by some to be the largest and heaviest of the Turkey variety. The Bronze strain is an American origination. The Bronze Broad Breasted Turkey is an excellent turkey to raise for family meat production and has an excellent feed to meat conversion rate. However, generally the Bronze Broad Breasted Turkey does not reproduce very well because of their large size. The Bronze Broad Breasted Turkey will have a shorter natural life span than a heritage turkey because of their large size and have a generally very poor reproduction rate.

The White Broad Breasted Turkey is the most common of commercial broad breasted strains of eating Turkeys on the market today. The White Broad Breasted Turkey is also one of the largest of the breeds and generally are not able to reproduce very well. They have an excellent feed to meat conversion ratio.
